  1. Physical health is very important for you. That is why everybody should play a sport. Having good physical heath is important because ding physical activity is a good thing to do to help you deal with problms. When you are mad you can do a physical activity to help you relieve it. Also, Being fit and healthy is important to stay alive and well. People who are over weight and do not do anything about it aften die earlier than they were originally going to. Overweight people aften are depressed becaue they use food to deal with their problems and they can’t get active as often as others.

  2. People all over the world, including children, are working in places such as sweatshops. My topic for this persuasive oral is that all people should be working in safe and healthy work places. They should be working in places where they receive a reasonable pay and are treated fairly. Major companies are using people in underprivileged and developing countries to manufacture products at a very cheap rate. They are also using children who will do anything for money to feed them that day. Children should be able to live a happy and healthy life.

  3. It is imperative for society to be healthy. To ensure a healthier country, habits such as smoking should become illegal. This should be done because smoking is an extremely dangerous habit that can lead to life-threatening illness and diseases such as heart problems and cancer. Secondly, the costs on not only the person, but society and our country as a whole is exorbitantly higher than it should ever be. Also the emotional and mental repercussions that would arise with this issue would be difficult for people to deal with and it could potentially damage to the person’s life and well-being.

  4. Child beauty pageants should be illegal because young children are being exposed to a life that holds many dangers and insecurities. Children as young as five are being treated like show ponies and being paraded around the stage, young children deserve a childhood which contains playing with friends, staying outside all day and not worrying about how they look, instead they get fake tans and a face caked with makeup. The beauty pageants also increase the numbers of Paedophilia and child kidnapping, it can also change the way society will become in the future and cause mental problems in young children who don’t deserve that.

  5. It is most importance that each person should have their free will. Marijuana should be legalized around the globe since it isn’t the government’s nether anyone else’s choice but yours. Marijuana is used for medical purposes but most commonly known as a street drug. It is a very weak type of drug and shows less harm than alcohol; only one person has died from Marijuana. New intelligence has showed in later research scientist will be allowed to take the THC out of it which is the substance which gives you the so called “high”. This would mean it could still be used for medical purposes without the side effects.

  6. Fourteen year olds are the younger generation and should be taught life skills and lessons early on so they can reach their top goal. Boys and Girls at the age of 14 should have a job. I have three reasons for this. The first reason is if fourteen year olds have a job they will learn an important life skill. The second reason is if they get jobs they will be off the streets and they will have a social life with work mates. The final reason is if 14 year olds earn their own money to spend it at their be able to spend it at their own will on whatever they want.

  7. The war in Afghanistan should be stopped because it is wasting valuable resources, money and lives. The war In Afghanistan should be stopped because people are dying in the conflict. The war is costing billions of dollars and is making some countries bankrupt. The money spent fighting could be used for environmental solutions and slowing global warming.

  8. Cars were invented for people’s benefit, for people’s pleasure and most of all for people’s use! This is why 13 year-olds should be allowed to drive! They should be able to drive because at the age of thirteen, almost every child does many hours of sport every week most of which is in the early hours of the morning. Parents everywhere are constantly driving their children to parties, after school activities and to friends’ houses which might be on the opposite side of the city. As teenagers, children like to express a sense of freedom, maturity and independence which is part of growing up.

  9. Smoking should become illegal:
Smoking is a deadly, addictive drug that can kill people if they don’t quit it is a serious problem in today’s society. Smoking should be banned. Smoking is one of the most common forms of recreational drug use. Smoking can cause many types of cancers and dieses for example gangrene, lung cancer and many more dieses and cancers. Smoking not only causes problems for the smoker but everyone around the smoker. Smoking can cause emotional and mental reprocution.

  10. Since the first man to step on the Moon, countries have gone crazy about Space travel. Now they are deciding whether, to travel to Mars or not. Most scientists say they should travel to Mars; it would be a great opportunity. Others say it would cost billions just to bring people back. Since the 1960s Earth has launched. Robotic space crafts to Mars including obiters, landers and rovers.

  11. Good health is imperative is our society. This is why smoking should become illegal. Firstly, smoking causes many diseases such as lung and liver cancer and can cause birth defects. Not only are people killing themselves by smoking but they are also paying to do so. Isn’t the Australian Government against suicide? Secondly, a smoker is almost guaranteed to develop lung cancer if they are to smoke for 25 years which will put them into hospital. Doctors and nurses are under extreme pressure in hospitals already but selfless smokers continue to smoke can create more stress in hospitals.

  12. Sports betting should be banned across all codes in Australia.

Sport is a highly regarded aspect in the Australian culture. The Australian Football League, the National Rugby League and Rugby Union are some examples of sports that are loved by citizens across Australia. Sport betting is a form of gambling that destroys the identity of sport and should be banned across the whole of Australia. Betting has resulted in huge debts for the general public when people are greedy or addicted to gambling. This can lead to depression for the person if he or she is addicted to gambling. The person is also vulnerable to actions relating to criminal activity and can be separated from his or her family.

  13. Smoking is one of the largest hazards to society today. Even if you are not a smoker the toxic gas still gets inside your lungs and destroys your body. There is only one way to stop this – make smoking illegal, attack the cigarette before it leaves the packet. Firstly it isn’t only the one person that inhales the smoke on purpose that suffers, but all the people surrounding them – not everyone wants to damage their body and put their life on the line. Secondly, cancer of the bladder, esophagus, larynx, lung, mouth and throat are all becoming better known to doctors and the population as cancers due to smoking. Not only are unwanted cancers caused but chronic lung disease, chronic heart and cardiovascular diseases as well as reproductive problem are occurring. Lastly there is the cost of cigarettes. The smoker’s aren’t the only ones that have to pay but the whole community too. They don’t have a choice of this as it is the law to pay taxes. People that smoke die an average of 13 to 14 years earlier than the average.

  14. Nuclear power is said to be eco-friendly and safe but this is not the case. This is why nuclear power shouldn’t be used in Australia. Nuclear power is the process of cutting or slicing uranium to release energy in the form of heat. This heat would then boil some water, creating steam which then turns a turbine that generates electricity. While nuclear power generates 16% of the world’s energy and is trusted by countries such as France and the USA, it does have major flaws that can have devastating consequences. The cost, the waste and the exposure to radiation are but three flaws of nuclear power.

    • I do agree with the cost of building a power plant is very expensive and that creating energy from renewable sources is cheap, but a geothermal plant (as an example) can only produce energy incredibly small which is not usable conventionally. Nuclear power, on the other hand, can produce a lot of energy with a small quantity of uranium/fuel rods. Even though the cost of building a power plant is expensive, it is easy to maintain. To maintain a wind turbine (as an example) is extremely hard to maintain to a working standard. It requires extensive repairs (if needed) and has no room for error.

      • Although wind turbines are expensive, they don’t make any waste products. I know that nuclear power plants sometimes recycle plutonium from the waste to be reused, but they still produce waste. Countries like Sweden do throw the waste back into the uranium mines and seal it up, but the waste will remain for millions of years and may leak into the surrounding environment. For places like Australia, throwing the waste back into the uranium mines in the desert may not be a problem, but the delicate eco-system in the desert may be harmed.

      • Tell me how would it leak into the surrounding enviroment if the mine is underground and if it is sealed up. Even if there are cracks on the walls of the mine, it wouldn’t get far before it reaches a dead end. And besides, the people who own the mine would be doing regular checks of the area (hopefully). The spent uranium/fuel rods are placed into containers as a first line of defence to stop radiation leaks, and placing it back into the mine is the second defence line. So please tell me, even with all these safety precautions in place, how it would leak into the enviroment.

    • REAL ONE!

Nuclear power is said to be eco-friendly and safe but this is not the case. This is why nuclear power shouldn’t be used in Australia. Nuclear power is the process of cutting or slicing uranium to release energy in the form of heat. This heat would then go on to generate electricity. While nuclear power generates 16% of the world’s energy and is trusted by countries such as France and the USA, it does have major flaws that can have devastating consequences. The cost, for one, ruins fragile economies and puts holes in others. The sustainability of the uranium fuel is definitely not guaranteed and the waste generates massive amounts of radiation into the environment and you.

    • I agree that the waste can’t leak far, but it will contaminate the surrounding environment because radiation spreads through the atoms of living organisms. Also, that waste can be used for Nuclear weaponry, this can lead to terrorism.

      • Yes, of course living things would be living in ABANDONED MINES, and of course we would leave it unguarded, and of course we would place depleted uranium in an ABANDONED MINE for use in nuclear weaponry. <—-Sarcasm.

      • You never know if a mouse or a bilby is living in a mine. They probably went down there for cover from the sun. Also, who is going to guard an abandoned mine in the DESERT, it may work but don’t forget that the terrorists may have guns as well. 🙂

  15. Whaling begun in the 12 century in Japan. Whales are the most majestic creatures. They surf the beautiful blue oceans, flying above the water surface. They also play a vital role in the sea food chain. Taking an animal like the whale out of the food chain Japanese Whalers should be jailed, as they are making these innocent mammals become endangered species. These dark hearted people say that there killing whales for ‘’scientific research’’- which is absolute bull dust. IWC (International Whale Commission) is a group where they allow them to kill whales for scientific research. This unreasonable group has made 95% of whales population has been reduce. The truth is that they’re killing these guiltless animals for meat and medicine. It is an expensive and prized meat for Japanese people. Japanese whalers should be jailed as they are making these animals endangered-and with the click of your fingers they will be on the border line of extinction.

  16. Prostitution is defined as providing sexual service, for the return of money and exchange of money for sexual service. Heterosexual prostitution is the most common. Homosexual, gays and lesbians exists on smaller scales. Prostitution is a hazardous business. People selling themselves are at high risk. Both men and women are at risk in getting disease that has no cure. Prostitution all together should be stopped and put an end to. Prostitution should be banned because first of all it is sin, and it can cause lots of problems, eg. diseases , death, also it is bad behaviour and some girls and women lose their reputations.

  17. Apart from specified uses in the medical field, cloning should be abolished in Australia. As complicated as cloning may appear, it is a process based upon the theory that every cell in a living organism contains an exact duplicate of itself. Human cloning is unethical because cloning is dehumanizing, will distort parenthood, and causes harm to animals.

    • The world of science and the public at large were both shocked and fascinated by the announcement by Ian Wilmut and his colleagues that they had successfully cloned a sheep. Many were horrified at the prospect that cloning of adult humans might be possible as well.

  18. Would you like to live in a world with high electricity prices? Would you like to live in a world where people have to wear gas masks everyday to stop inhaling dangerous chemicals? I know I wouldn’t. Nuclear power is a clean source of energy without all the atmosphere polluting materials made by burning fossil fuels and coal. Nuclear power uses fuel rods at incredibly high temperatures (these temperatures are created by cutting the atoms in the rod) to turn water into steam, which turns a turbine to create electricity. One truck load of uranium (the resource used to create the fuel rods) creates the same amount of energy that one thousand truck loads of coal create. Even though groups like Greenpeace want you to believe that nuclear power is bad and destroys the environment, this doesn’t mean that it can be beneficial to humanity. Australia has plenty of spaces to place a nuclear power plant, and also has a large deposit of uranium to use. This is why nuclear power should be used in Australia.

    • The time need to plan and build a powerplant is about 20-30 years and needs to be monitered every second to may sure that it has no flaws. The time needed to build one is long time, as mentioned above, and to build numerous plants to counter Australia’s omissions would take ages. This is too long and may not be able to stop climate change in time. Also, Uranium is not renewable. The uranium does last for more than 20 years in a power plant but does evenutally run out. This means that nuclear power ISN’T SUSTAINABLE.

      • I’m not saying we build ten power plants in Australia. And yes, uranium does run out. If you add other elements before it starts its decaying process, then it would last 60 years. Mind you that there are innumerable amounts of uranium deposits on this planet. And depending on what sites you search, the time to build a power plant varies, and I’m guessing you chose the most outrageous one just to prove a point. The time it takes is usually 7-12 years (NEIS). The time it takes to build a wind farm is 3.39 years (World bank report). Some buildings (depending on their size) can take up to ten years (commercial buildings, not power plants). So even if the plant does take 7-12 years, the benefits of the power coming from it would last more than a lifetime. And besides, if you’re worried about a meltdown caused by a natural disaster in Australia, don’t bother. Australia is not prone to earthquakes or tsunamis.

    • Yes, Australia isn’t prone to earthquakes and tsunamis, but it is prone to wild fires and strong droughts. The fires could blown up the diesel engines, stopping the flow of water and creating a nuclear meltdown/explosion. Enough if you put a power plant out in the desert, rare, but strong rain storms can cause massive erosion and undermine the plant. Also, strong winds can erode the walls and foundations. To counter this you would need people to maintain the plant and that would cost money, also, who would want to stay out in the desert for ages maintaining it? The problem for uranium or even a semi-uranium fuel source is that it will eventually run out, no matter what you do. This will create problems for future generations. Finally the diesel engines require fuel, and that fuel is petrol! This leads back to the problem of carbon emissions.

      • Mins you that a fire in the DESERT is extremely rare, and even if there is a strong drought it wouldn’t affect the plant. The diesel engines are BACK UPS, in case the main power source (the reactors themselves) have a meltdown and need to cool down by pumping water on them. “…but strong rain storms can cause massive erosion and undermine the plant.” Are you serious? If you looked out your window last year, you would’ve seen a HUGE amount of water coming down, and did it erode buildings? No. And your point about the wind erosion on the plant? Pointless. Skyscrapers have HEAPS of wind passing around and through them, but have they collapsed yet? No. And your point about the diesel engines polluting? Futile. They are BACK UPS.

        Check and mate.

      • Yes skyscrapers do get hit by wind constantly but the wind in the desert has sand particles in them. Also, the ground in the desert doesn’t have plants or ground holding items, so the water can under mine a plant easily.

      • And what about the sand storm that happened in 2008? That carried sand particles in it, and yet no major damage occurred to any buildings. And where does the water go once it goes into the ground? It goes DOWN. Are trying to to tell me that water can go under a plant and cause a cave in? Common sense Nathan, look into it please. How come the ground in the desert hasn’t collapsed under the weight of the trees and animals on it? What I’m getting at, from that point, that because water gets underneath a plant it can cause a cave in. Am I correct?

      • Because the desert has NO BIG ANIMALS OR PLANTS ON IT! Also, The sand storm in 2008 was one time. In the desert it is CONSTANT! Finally, you need pumps to keep the water flowing anyway, even there is no problem. And the water? The water may or may not rush off, but it has a high chance of it.

      • Nathan, your points are invalid. Deserts do not have constant sand storms. That’s a stereotypical point of view. Here’s a rebuttle against your point that water can cause erosion underneath a plant: how come it hasn’t happened to major cities around the globe? The ground is solid, not like sand in a sand pit.

    • But the desert is like a giant sand pit. I know my point about the water erosion was wrong and that if you could decide where to put the plant, you would put it in the rain shadow of the grand dividing range. But what about WATER! and if you say the artesian basin, then you are putting that basin at risk from a rare but disastrous radiation leak. Poisoning billions of plants and animal species that rely on the basin for water. Also, the nuclear power plants need a constant water source for boiling to make steam, and that water will again come from the artesian basin. What say you Liam?

      • Nathan, the water is there to cool down the reactors in case of a MELTDOWN. Nuclear power plants can be placed in the middle of nowhere and still produce electricity. And please stop saying the we will be placing several power plants in Australia, which we’re not. I’m saying we should have at least one.

      • By the way, respond to my previous post on YOUR blog, not on mine. That blog post has been there for a few weeks and I have reminded you about it, so please do it. I am not impressed -.-

      • Liam please go and research the types of reactors. I think you will find that most reactors need a substance to heat up and turn to gas to turn a turbine. That substance is generally water. Also, “I’m saying we should have at least one.” really Liam, one reactor won’t be even to power Australia. That would be like trying to power a plane with a triple AAA battery. Think about Liam.

        🙂

      • Nathan, I said one reactor to power a CITY, not the WHOLE of AUSTRALIA! I’m not that idiotic to think that one nuclear reactor could power the WHOLE of AUSTRALIA. I do agree that most reactors do use water, so of course there would be a pipeline for water (Australia does have the money to make a pipeline. Remember Kevin Rudd’s plan for a desalination throughout South-east Queensland?). And of course I would think about myself. Wouldn’t you?

      • Liam, stop trolling. But more importantly is the fact that the water has to come from somewhere and that water source is probably going to be the Artesian basin or, if people have enough brain cells, the Ocean. Then again, the ocean is full of salt water and that salt could effect the plant in a way? But it still comes down to cost. It is all about money, money, money (obviously not all of it but still). Think about Nathan. 🙂

  19. Do you want to live life in a healthier and safer community? Because of Daylight saving, it will give people the opportunity to become a well-balanced person. Daylight saving promotes exercise and good health. It lets people spent time with each other and devotes free leisure time for everyone. Because of more time, Daylight saving allows recreational activities to be done. Daylight saving reduces crime because it usually occurs at night, but with increased Daylight, less crimes will be committed. Daylight saving produces less accidents on the road because according to studies, drivers are more careful during daylight hours. Daylight saving has many advantages. This proves that Daylight saving has its advantages.

  20. Do you remember the tragedy of September 11th 2001? Do you remember the day when 3000 people were robbed of their lives? National Security should be stronger in order to prevent any more attacks to our nations. Weapons, drugs, and other illegal items are transferred from country to country each day, slipping past the lax airport security. Security checks on those working in law enforcement should be tougher, to ensure that those protecting us aren’t those we need protecting from. Finally, human trafficking and illegal border crossing is still a booming business that needs to be eliminated.

  21. Do you really want our world plagued with even more cyclones, typhoons and hurricanes? In a few decades these natural disasters could be a weekly issue. This is why more action should be taken about climate change. Firstly climate change will impact on natural disasters (both their intensities and their frequencies). Secondly it will impact on the habitat of animals (especially in the sea) and decrease or increase certain species chances of survival. Lastly climate change will pose a climatic change (including weather patterns) in many areas. This is why action must be taken about climate change.

  22. When we grow up, society takes a huge role onto our everyday lives. Constantly we compare ourselves with people that are famous or on the magazines. We look up to people that have accomplished great things and follow their actions. Society is the key factor in the development of a human being. No matter how young or old you are. Teenagers around the adolescent ages are still maturing which means they are easily influenced to what they see and hear. How parents’ act towards their children at home builds up what they are like towards other people. Magazines, Advertisements and Celebrities impacts the way we think about ourselves. This is all materialism and they make us what we are today.

  23. How would you like to be put up on a stage, dressed up like a china doll, and paraded around in front of a group of judgemental adults at the age of 4? This is normal for children competing in beauty pageants. They are barely old enough to speak, yet they are lathered in outrageous makeup, dressed in inappropriate clothing and made to dance around on stage, and be judged on their appearance by a group of strangers. This should be banned! These children have no concept of what a beauty pageant is; they don’t understand why other girls are receiving trophies for being more beautiful than them! What is this teaching these young, innocent kids? I believe it is sick and morally wrong!

  24. Do you want your children growing up violent and aggressive towards others? Research shows that video games are affecting children, from the age of four. Many studies have shown that players of violent video games tend to be angrier and more aggressive than others that play non-violent games. An example of violent behavior after playing video games is, April 20th 1999. Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold murdered 13 and wounded 23 at Columbine high school, Colorado before they turned their guns on themselves. Evidence shows that the students were very keen on ‘Doom’, a U.S. video game. The game includes shooting and violent activity. For a class project, the boys made a video that was similar to the game ‘Doom’. The video included the boys carrying guns and killing school athletes. Violent video games cause mental issues including depression, physical violence and verbal abuse.

  25. Do you want your child growing up and missing out on real life experiences? For video gamers interacting, learning and socializing are simply not a priority when it comes to getting to the next level or finishing a game. When children are addicted to video games they spend their time stuck in a virtual reality. Video games are a bad influence on children. Frequent use of video games can lead to serious physical and mental health problems such as sight loss, lack of concentration, muscle and joint problems and obesity. Lastly, exposure of violent video games can result in aggressive behaviour. If a child sees their favourite character from a video game killing someone, they might start to copy their behaviour. This is why video games are a BAD influence on children.

  26. Body image and self-confidence are proficient issues in our adolescence. Child beauty pageants ranging from ages 3months-11yrs should be banned. The term pageant refers to little girls dressing up and competing in divisions such as talent, beauty and swimwear for cash prizes. Child beauty pageants sexualise young girls in the form of wearing provocative clothing and performing inappropriate dances. If girls from a young age focus on beauty and perfection when they grow older they will decipher that these are important, fuelling the fire to already troubling body image issues in teenage girls. Competition for children can be healthy, but many girls take pageantry very seriously, which can lead to behavioural problems such as selfishness and bossiness.

  27. Women’s sport should have equal representation as mens in the media. Why is it that men get more publicity then women? Women are just as talented and passionate as men when it comes to sport. Infact, at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, of Australian team was 45%women and won more than half of our gold medals. But unfortunately, the achievements of sports women are often invisible. They only recieve 5% of all sports coverage, in newspapers, and on the radio and television, all over the world. Besides tennis and figure skating, the most watched womens sport on television is lingerie football. Why should women have to dress inapropriatly whilst playing sport just to be seen? They have the same rights as men beacause they are just as talanted.

  28. In 2011, 5% of Australian school students had an ascertainable disability. In May 2011 the Prime Minister announced new budget funding of $200 million to provide extra support for students with disability in Australian schools. At the time of this announcement there already existed a range of funded programs across both State and Federal Government aimed at supporting children with disabilities in the education environment. The amount of money being given to this need is not as important as the way the money is being spent. There are currently too many programs with too many objectives competing for disability funding. If there were fewer programs and therefore fewer objectives, the expected outcomes would be more realistic. The disparities in current state legislation mean that a student with a disability has different rights of access to education depending on where they live. One federally operated program would eliminate this. Further, each program aimed at supporting children with disabilities in the education environment requires administration. With fewer programs, there would be less money diverted from the main objective. Additionally, fewer programs with the primary focus of giving all children with disabilities access to education will lead to more independent adults.

  29. Scenes have recently been broadcast of a protected green turtle being bludgeoned and then dismembered by an aboriginal while apparently still alive. Green turtles are a protective species however the native title act allows aboriginals to slaughter these animals without being subject to animal cruelty laws. The native title act should be changed to prevent aboriginals from hunting endanger species and ensure that animal cruelty laws apply.

  30. Scenes have recently been broadcast of a protected Green Turtle being bludgeoned and then dismembered by aboriginals while apparently still alive, the video also contained footage of a Dugong being dragged by a tinny to shore and carved into pieces. Dugongs and Green turtles are protected species however the Native Title Act allows aboriginals to slaughter these animals without being subject to animal cruelty laws. The Native Title act should be changed to prevent aboriginals from hunting endanger species and ensure that animal cruelty laws apply. Endangered animals are more important than aboriginals’ right to hunt. If these acts are continued animals such as Green Turtles and Dugongs won’t be around for future generations to view. It is unsustainable for aboriginals to continue to kill these endangered animals since eventually they will be extinct.

  31. Black, white, gay or straight, we are all human, but why is acceptance of the law to legalize gay marriage being debated so often? Yes, Australia should legalize gay marriage. Gay marriage is simply two ordinary human beings, who have fallen in love with each other, wanting to commit themselves to their partner and generally joining names and becoming a family.. Firstly, it is enormously unfair for homosexuals, who don’t necessarily have control over their sexuality, to be forbidden to marry the one they love. If heterosexuals can do it, why not homosexuals? Secondly, apparently most humans have their freedom, then why are public displays of affection by homosexuals also restricted? People, gay or straight should have the right to display affection towards a loved one. Lastly, the number of same-sex marriage is increasing at a significant rate, therefore the number of marriages will decrease leaving the world with under half the population married. This would be shocking for Australia.

  32. BETTER EDITION:
Black, white, gay or straight, we are all human, but why is acceptance of the law to legalize gay marriage being debated so often? Yes, Australia should legalize gay marriage. Gay marriage is simply two ordinary human beings, who have fallen in love with each other, wanting to commit themselves to their partner and generally joining names and becoming a family, as one. Firstly, it is enormously unfair for homosexuals, who don’t necessarily have control over their sexuality, to be forbidden to marry the one they love. If heterosexuals can do it, why not homosexuals? Secondly, if humans have freedom, then why are public displays of affection by homosexuals also restricted? People, gay or straight should have the right to display affection towards a loved one. Lastly, the number of same-sex relationships is increasing at a significant rate; therefore the number of marriages will decrease leaving the world with fewer than half the population married. This result would be shocking and embarrassing for Australia’s reputation.

  33. Does technology rule over your life, Do we all need it as much as with think? Technology is one of the main features of our life, technology makes create documents and talking to friends easier by ‘FaceBook’. Technology takes over our life by being anti-social and staying on a device the size of your palm, rather then spending time with your family, pets or even playing in the pool. Most of us today stay up to late hours facebooking or even doing assignment before the night it is due in. Do we all need technology, the awenser is no. There are plenty or other things to do in the world, this result shows that we don’t fully need technology.

  34. Bus lanes should be re-implemented:
The acceptance and usage of public transport in our modern society varies around the world. In Australia, especially in Brisbane it is quite poor, not least because it is unattractive. One option to make public transport more attractive is to re-implement bus lanes. The re-introduction of bus lanes would mean that the travelling times of buses would dramatically decrease. Not only would buses and their passengers benefit from bus lanes but also emergency services could use the lane efficiently. Another benefit of re-implementing of bus lanes would be the decrease of pollution, as more people would take buses and leave their cars at home, thus decreasing emmision. Bus lanes make commuting by bus cheaper, quicker and environmentally friendly.

  35. The Brisbane floods were devastating, but if this were to happen more often, what would we do? Climate change Is a growing fear for our generation and the generations to come and should be dealt with immediately. Firstly Climate change will have an effect on weather patterns around the world, producing more erratic and dangerous events such as cyclones or floods. A change in climate has also started to cause the ice caps at earths polls to melt, which has resulted in rise in sea levels. This will cause problems to populated coastal and low lying areas all around the world. Lastly this change in climate will have an effect on wildlife and there habitats everywhere, Including our Great Barrier Reef which hosts habitats for hundreds of rare animals you can not find anywhere else in the world. This is why we should act now before it is too late.

  36. Would you like to have a world of only war? This is how some kids have to live because of Joseph Kony. Firstly, Kony takes the kids out of where they are living and make them kill there own parents. Secondly, he makes the girls become prostitutes and cooks, and the boys become full armed soldiers. Lastly, he teaches them how to kill and torture, so if a kid doesn’t obey or tries to run he is tortured and most likely killed.

  37. Do you think your children, or grand children would like to wake up in a world that is destroyed by their parent’s or grand parent’s greed? Climate change should be stopped or reduced. The negative effects of climate change are: Firstly, the polar ice caps are melting and this is causing a rise in sea levels. Secondly, increased storm activity is caused by the climate change, causing severe drought and flood.
Lastly, also a problem is the effect on animals. If climate change continues, some animal species are probibily going to become extinct due to change of their natural habitat and the change in the food chains.

  38. Animals deserve rights, and these rights should abolish animal abuse, abandonment, and animal experimentation.500 animals die every day and 300 000 animals die a year from animal abuse.Think of the pain these animals go through. No one deserves to be abused, these animals need just as much respect as anyone else. Nothing Deserves to be Abused.

  39. Smoking is one of the largest hazards today. Many people do not realise how dangerous those little white sticks really are, or how that tiny party puff can end it all. This is why smoking should be illegal. Millions of people around the world are addicted to this terrible habit, even if your not you can still get affected by second hand smoke. Around the world around 50 people die every day due to smoking related diseases like lung cancer, which could be easily prevented if people were not careless enough to try it. Another important reason smoking should be banned is the amount of money it costs. The average smoker will spend around $5000 a year on cigarettes a year, wasting much needed money for food, rent and taxes. But the most important reason smoking should be banned is the effects it has on the environment. Cigarette smoke has profound effects on the environment, causing land, air and water pollution, even the factories making the cigarettes affect the environment. So ask yourself this, would you like to be informed in 15 years you have lung cancer, or walk outside and struggle breathing with the amount of smoke? I think not!

  40. To many people in the floods of 2011 went bankrupt. These victims should have been given more money. Firstly the insurence companies did not give the money that the people were suppost to resieve because the companies were affraid that they would go broke. Secondly some of the victims in the floods never got warned about when it was coming. Lastly most of these victims could not replace all of their priceless items because of the floods washed these items away.

  41. Would you pay up to $200 a week for bad teeth, bad health and most importantly a shorter life? This is what Millions of Australians go through every day and all because two or three Tabaco companies care more about money then the general health and safety of Australia. Smoking is dangerous and expensive and should be banned in Australia. Some companies may argue that if Australia was to ban smoking that the government would simply loose too many jobs and too much money to keep its economical integrity alive. This could also result in a black market .The point that they are failing to see is that no matter how many restriction we put in place there are always going to be a black market. So it seems rather stupid not to ban smoking just because there are a few people that will continue to smoke illegally. I can see their reasoning about the amount of jobs and money that could be lost. But hospitals spend millions of dollars on Medicare for smokers alone, and would easily balance out the money lost from tobacco companies.

  42. IMPROVED VERSION:
Nuclear power is a form energy that is extremely dangerous which can cause chaotic disasters. Nuclear power should not be introduced to Australia. This form of energy production can lead to radioactive meltdowns which can cause large amounts of land to become inhabitable for decades. Radioactive waste made from the production of nuclear power can cause diseases and cancer. This radioactive waste not only affects towns and cities nearby but causes health issues worldwide. Nuclear power uses a massive amount of water which could send Australia into another lengthy drought. Nuclear power is too risky which is why this form of energy should not be introduced to Australia.

    • Yes, I agree with you, but nuclear power doesn’t use a lot a water. Research the way nuclear power plants work and then you will know.

  43. Obesity in American Children and teenagers is linked with fast food industry. The American Government should more tightly regulate the fast food industry. Adverts are encouraging unhealthy eating in children and teenagers. The Government should tighten the amount of adverts shown. Portion sizes should be revised, as they are so large that it is contributing to obesity. Teenagers are allowed to go off campus at lunch to go and buy whatever you want. Off campus lunches should be regulated to minimise unhealthy eating options. The government should be involved with the fast food industry.
